Merry Christmas from Kellie Parry Photography! Starting today I will be on holiday break until January 3rd. See you in 2011!

This morning I had the chance to photograph this little cutie again! I did her newborn photos last May and now she’s seven months old and the perfect age for testing out my new portable studio equipment. For this session we actually set up in my kitchen because I love my Brazilian cherry wood floors and I think they photograph really well. We also used my new backdrop stand and seamless paper along with my new lighting equipment.
I had a terrible time narrowing down my favorites so I’m sharing several. How can I resist this little cutie?

Big sister jumped in for a few but she was more the spice in the sugar and spice recipe. I’ll have to catch her again another day when I can take her outside and we have more room!

Baby girl C isn’t much of a smiler, but she sure loves to smile at her big sister!

I can’t resist those cheeks!

I did my last family mini session for the year yesterday afternoon and for once the weather cooperated with me! Instead of the dull gray skies and constant drizzle we’ve had for the last few weeks the sun popped out for a bit. It wasn’t all that warm but we really can’t complain! I did this family’s photos almost two years ago and it’s fun to see how the girls have grown and changed. Thanks again for the fun session (and the to die for apple bread)!

I met this adorable baby girl a little over a week ago in a small town just outside of Corvallis. She is absolutely perfect as you can see from the images below! Totally worth getting stuck in post-Beaver game traffic. Next time I’ll have to remember to check the football schedule for Saturday sessions!
By the way I made the headbands we used in this session and it was way easier then I thought it would be. And kind of fun! I may have to make more…

Does the daunting task of trying to coordinate your entire family’s wardrobe make you break out in hives? Perhaps you’ve spent a significant amount of time staring in your closet trying to make sense of what would make you look your very best. Well look no further because I’m here to help!
General Style Tips
1. Start by showing off your personality! Pick clothes that reflect YOU and make you feel good. If you feel like a million bucks it will make you look like a million bucks! This also means you should choose clothing that fits you well and isn’t too tight or too baggy.
2. Don’t be afraid of color or patterns. Vibrant colors and simple patterns photograph very well and can really make your photographs pop. I do recommend that you stay away from characters, logos, or lettering on clothing as they tend to take attention off your face.
3. Layer! Wear a cute jacket, scarf, vest, scarf, tie, leggings under a skirt, or a collared shirt. While you’re at it think about textures such as leather, corduroy, or denim for added interest.
4. Don’t forget about your feet. Wear socks and shoes that blend in with your outfit. Sometimes it’s best to go barefoot (weather permitting of course!).

Children & Baby Styling Tips
Choose clothes that are fun and comfortable for your child to wear. If your child hates their outfit there’s a good chance they’re unhappiness will show up in their photographs! Remember to avoid characters and writing on clothing. I love to dress my kids and have several clothing companies that I think photograph especially well:
Baby Gap
Matilda Jane
Mini Boden
Hanna Andersson
Old Navy
Chasing Fireflies
Family Styling Tips
Start with the person who has the most limited wardrobe or is hardest to dress and work from there. Remember that you don’t have to completely match each other! Choose 2-4 complimentary or similar colors and stick with them. For example you could choose jewel tones, pastels, earth tones, or pink and gray. It’s okay to have a few people wear a pattern so long as the patterns compliment each other and don’t make one person stick out from the rest.
